Noor Theatre is an Obie Award–winning company that supports, develops, and produces the work of theater artists of Middle Eastern descent. Led by Founding Artistic Director Lameece Issaq, an award-winning actor and writer, Noor was created to develop artists’ voices and share their often-unheard stories with a diverse audience. In a climate where xenophobia, racism, Islamophobia, and prejudice against individuals from the Middle East are prevalent, Noor nurtures new work and creates a collaborative environment in which the many artists with whom they have formed relationships can thrive and create. As a grantee member of the Pop Culture Collaborative’s “Artists Advancing Cultural Change” program, Noor Theater will choose and manage a cohort of artists to create stories that inspire mass audiences to both envision and yearn for a just and pluralist society.
