Meet our grantee:
Crenshaw Dairy Mart
Type of grant:
Artists Advancing Culture ChangeThe Crenshaw Dairy Mart emerges from an investment in abolition, modes of accessibility in art practice, and weaving community solidarity through new memories. It is home to an artist collective and art gallery dedicated to shifting the trauma-induced conditions of poverty and economic injustice, bridging cultural work and advocacy, and investigating ancestries through the lens of Inglewood (CA) and its community. The grant to the Crenshaw Dairy Mart will support Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors to conduct a six-month narrative research project in preparation for the launch of a writers room that will work to transform her New York Times–bestselling memoir, “When They Call You a Terrorist” (Macmillan 2019), into a television series.
