The Upstanders Mindset: The Time to Step Into the Fight for Justice is Now

“Traveling the Interstitium with Octavia Butler” is an interactive WebXR experience created by five groundbreaking Black artists: Stephanie Dinkins, Yance Ford, Terence Nance, Sophia Nahli Allison, and Idris Brewster. These artists, working at the intersection of art, science, and technology, have set out to reimagine and explore the concept of “the interstitium.” The interactive website was built by creative technologist, Ari Melenciano. Using 360 spatial sound, AI, interactive gameplay, photography, and video footage, five unique portals transport audiences on a journey of imagination and self-discovery inspired by Octavia Butler’s work. “Traveling the Interstitium” brings new insights on our collective reality, informed by African values and logic systems, in the hopes of helping humanity design our collective future.
