break the story

Stemming from the #OscarsSoWhite and #Metoo movements, the entertainment industry is in the midst of a great reckoning. A reckoning over the way the system was built to keep decision-making power in the hands of a few, constantly reinforcing an old white boys network. A reckoning over who has the power to tell stories and what those stories convey to the rest of the world. A reckoning about the impact Hollywood has on the direction of our country’s values and political compass.

In the second volume of “Break The Story,” curated and produced by Senior Fellow Jamilah King, we focus how women, people of color, and especially women of color are recentering power in Hollywood (and beyond) to make sure we create long-lasting culture change rooted in justice, connection and community.  This volume brings you a snapshot of the insights and work of artists and leaders across entertainment, social movements, and philanthropy who are reimagining and changing both how the entertainment industry operates, and the narratives that impact our society.
